Henry looked up at the boarded up house and new it was for the best he would keep himself together for the boy, because he needed too, and because he knew Abraham wasn't truly gone from their lives.

He wanted Abraham to have a normal life, a full life, despite his need to hunt vampires, despite their mutual need to protect the world from the darker members of his kind.

He tapes the thick letter, giving his congratulations, and the address of where he and David would be moving too. He turns to the cart and gives the boy a warm smile.

The boy sitting up in the side set, as the back was loaded with what they would need to take with them, Henry climbs up and gets the horses moving.

He felt warm. All his grumps and concerns about Abraham were forgotten as he heard him call him son. It had been a while, it seemed, since he heard 'son' and even then it wasn't spoken by a man but his old mother. His mother he was slowly going to forget anyhow, and he didn't seem to mind at the moment. That would kick in later, but for now... now he had Henry.

He reached out to take hold of Henry's coat, just holding on and trailing behind him, seeming much more happy now, thought not saying much, like normal. David never really spoke much outside of the house, though he spoke more around school, because he had to.

For him, this was all he needed. He didn't need Abraham to come in and bother them. So yes, he could be good and eat dinner with Abraham, but he knew where his place was now.

He trotted off, looking for the book that would be just right. The last one had a bit of a black color to the brown of the binding. This time he was eyeing a blue one. He was going to be practical though and not ask for it, but... things were going well and maybe it would be a okay choice, so he picked it up with a questioning look to Henry. Then, looking around he bit his lip. Did he need anything else?

He reached to pick up a new pencil, sat it down and shook his head. No, this was good. He had his old quill and his ink was mostly full. There was no reason to push things. He already got a new book and a book of poems. It was a good haul today.

David went to pay, paying close attention to how the clerk wraps his new goods, and as he is handed back change and his packages, he carefully brings it back to Henry, offering him what was left. Nope, he didn't have a clue about the pencil. He was fine as it was anyhow.

"Thank you, father." He said in a small voice, carefully glancing back to make sure he wasn't heard by the shop clerk. All things considered Henry was lucky to get him into a shop at all. General stores however were the hardest to get him into. Or at least the hardest to separate himself form Henry's leg.

When it was morning the boy went into normal routine, gathering some bread and a fruit and having that for breakfast, not requiring Henry to be around to do that. He had been up for some time now, awake again by another nightmare but silent this time. He sat in his chair, leg singing as he chewed on his bread, head tilted, looking up at the weird bladed boots oddly.

"What are those for?" and.... a blink "A tree?"

He looked up at the man, amazement clear on his face, as well as a hidden excitement that wouldn't stay hidden for long. Skating, a tree and gifts? This was all too much, but he looked excited and nodded to Henry. "Sounds like fun!" He said, the excitement clear in his voice. "I've never been on ice in shoes like that..." He'd always done it in boots for the winter.

He gave a sharp nod, finished is bread and excused himself to go run off and bundle up. He was tugging on a burnt orange scarf, trying to make it wrap and lay right around his neck, seeming to beam a bit more as he meet with Henry to go. The walk is short and his excitement grows the closer they get. Back home he and the others his age could skate on the pond in the inter, but it was with well worn summer shoes or thick new winter boots. This? This would be new.

He stands on his feet, wobbly, but he trusts Henry, so he holds on and lets him pull him a bit. His ankles are unstable, but it only takes him a moment to figure out how to balance right. He laughed, unthinking of how he sounded as he does. It's loud and amused at first, looking down at his feet as he's tugged along.

"I've... been on ice before." He confessed again, looking down the whole time, to make sure he was balanced, letting Henry move him. He held the mans hands tightly, but was grinning, laughing some. "Ruth used to get mad at me when I did it. But I'd always get her out on the ice with me." Huh, he's never spoke of anyone else by name before...

Henry had a older sister too? He looked up at that, surprised, but smiling more. That was neat. his legs wobbled a moment and he nearly toppled if not for Henry's steady hands. He grasped on to Henry's hands harder, still talking in a soft voice so only they could hear.

"Ruth hated it. I'd make her come out and get me. She'd have to drag me across the ice to get me off and I'd always fight it and slide off with ease. This is much harder." that was the most he had spoken in one go, it seemed, but for him it was a good memory.

Mean while Abraham and Mary were taking a walk. the kids were being looked after and the couple were taking a stroll in the park area, stretching their legs and bundled up warm. It had been Mary's idea, as she had noticed her husband had been dreadfully distracted with something, more then likely business on this trip.

It was one of his good days. They didn't come often though. He rarely spoke about himself, let alone spoke of family. What little family he did have. He smiled often enough now, but he rarely laughed, and when he did laugh it wasn't loud enough for others to hear. Today was a good day, so it was good that they didn't stop to see Abraham, because he would have calmed up again.

"Is that your friend?" Mary had said, bring he and her into a conversation about the man. He didn't look old enough for such a old child, and what of his wife? Adopted? Found? Poor child. Such a good man. Dinner? Set up with a friend of hers. No? Well... it was a thought. So on and so on. Mary seemed very interested in any friends of Abraham's, but Abe seemed to withdraw the idea easy enough. He did say he would talk to Henry about it, to see if he was interested, but he as sure he would not be.

Abe was distracted, watching Henry but also David. He'd never seen the boy that happy before, and it warmed him some in the cold. He pulled Mary close, to steal a hug and a kiss, but watched the two as they pulled off the ice, away from them at the other end.

For Abraham, he felt good about leaving David with Henry. Clearly the boy was better off.

David got out of the skates, insisting on carrying his own and asking "Can we do this again soon?" because he really enjoyed it and hoped to be better next time.

He actually enjoyed stringing the popcorn, careful as he used a needle to do so, as shown. the tree, he thought, looked amazing. He thought if he had his squirrel still, it could live right there.

When the extra candy cane was offered he beamed, taking it then pausing, looking at it then to Henry. "I wish I could split it with you." He thought it seemed so unfair that Henry couldn't eat things like he could.

He frowns at that, but nods, breaking off a piece and sucking on it anyhow. He wishes still that Henry can partake in the things he can. Ah, but at the mention of guests he frowns.

"Visitors? I thought it was just Abraham." He asked, uncomfortable now. Will there be more then just him? He looked down at his hands, the peppermint color on his fingers from where he snapped the bit off. Yes, he'd have to clean up.

David nodded carefully before slowly walking off, thoughtlessly sucking on the end of the candy cane as went to get cleaned up. He didn't care for what was to come tonight.

When Abraham does arrive, it is just him in a clean suit and a tall hat. He stood outside the door, feeling oddly nervous for just coming to meet with the man.
